Lots of fun January 7, 2009 I bought this for my kids for Christmas and they absoutley love it. If I would let them they would litterly play PSP 24/7. The combo pack is the only way to go. Thanks Amazon.com
piano black = finger prints! January 6, 2009 this is my first psp i got the piano black ratchet and clank pack.and to be honest this litle thang has a better picture than my 32"crt tv! this thang is loaded with awesome goodies; web browser, skype, internet radio, just to name a few. i got the piano black thinking the finger print issue wasnt to bad i was way wrong there. ive had it a day and i have to repeatedly wipe off the prints and smuges from the psp and the screen. there is glair its hard to play under a bright light. and if your like me and not tec savy you will have trouble setting up remote play on a ps3, it took me like an hour to get it done. i would recomend this to any one that liked games.
pros: great value in the bundle; beautiful design; lots of features
cons: heavy smuging; odd first feel of button layout; tiny weak sound through speakers, short battery charg life
It Really Is That Good... January 5, 2009 I purchased two PSP 3000 Limited Edition Ratchet & Clank Entertainment Packs several weeks ago. To be honest, the system is better than I had expected.
The screen on the PSP 3000 is definitely an improvement over earlier models. While I believe it is the same size, the brightness and color quality are both much improved.
I only used previous models briefly, so I can't comment on how the rest of this model compares (buttons, etc.), but I have no complaints about this latest hardware release.
Most potential buyers are familiar with the qualities of the PSP, so I won't go into great detail about the technical aspects. If you are used to handling a Nintendo DS Lite you might find the overall feel of the PSP to be "cheaper" or less durable. I'm not sure that the PSP would hold up to some of the drops our DS Lites have experienced. Hopefully I won't have to find out.
The included Ratchet & Clank game is a great "starter" game for your PSP and is universally fun to boys and girls, both young and old.
Since the PSP has been around a while you'll find a great selection of very reasonably priced older games - many in the $14.99 - $19.99 range.
If you've been considering a PSP, I would highly recommend the new 3000 model. If you already have a functioning earlier PSP model, I doubt that it's worth the upgrade. But this screen sure is sweet...
Reasonable upgrade from 1st gen PSP January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having owned the 1st gen PSP for 3 1/2 years, I was very happy with it, but I am always on the lookout for the "next generation". I know the PSP "slim" 2000 came out over a year ago, but it wasn't enough to convince me to upgrade. When I heard about the PSP 3000 with the upgraded display I decided it was time. Not quite the next generation, but still better all around. I am very happy with it. As soon as I got it I popped in Ridge Racer and right away I noticed the difference. The colors seems to stand out more. I can see more detail. The display also has a harder more scratch resistant surface. Going from the original to the slimmer 3000 I noticed how much thinner and lighter it is. Piano black was my first choice. They changed the texture of the back of the handheld to smooth and shiny, which makes it a fingerprint magnet.
I also have a PS3 which is quite awesome and I use the remote play capability quite a bit. Remote play lets you control your PS3 through the PSP. Along with playing PSP and PSone classic games through the PS3 on the PSP, I also have a media server setup using Tversity (free). I can play movies and music from the PS3 with remote play, or I can access the Tversity server directly from the PSP using the internet browser. I prefer the PS3 remote play as it offers me more options. Very nice to have when you're not at home but want to watch a movie, or you're studying and want to listen to some music.
The rest of this is a rant. I really hope Sony makes the right decisions so the PSP succeeds in its market. No way can they compete with Nintendo DS much like PS3 competing with the Wii. Now Apple is a threat with the Ipod touch and Iphone. The Apple users like the convenience of a multimedia/mobile phone that's powerful enough to double as a game handheld. Personally this doesn't appeal to me because to be a real game handheld you need some dedicated controls. I think the key to PSP succeeding is lowering the price and offering more 1st party games.
Piano Black Is A Winner January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I suppose we all know what the PSP is on a functional level so I won't go into all of the product description and what have you. I'm loving the 3000 and am so pleased to have it in the lovely piano black; was equally pleased to have received it the day before "release". Great handheld and Amazon's price really cannot be beat.
